The Municipal Climate Change Action Centre provides funding, technical assistance, and education to help Alberta municipalities reduce greenhouse gas emissions through energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions. The Action Centre is a joint partnership between the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association, Rural Municipalities of Alberta and the Government of Alberta. Since 2009, over 130 municipalities have undertaken more than 400 projects. Municipalities will see over $40 million in lifetime energy savings, and avoid 227,000 tonnes of lifetime greenhouse gas emissions (CO2e). PCPS was formed in 1995 and assists municipalities with a variety of planning services including subdivision processing, preparing policy plans and answering questions about the processing of development permits. The services used by each member municipality vary based on each member’s size, available in-house resources and work priorities. PCPS offers a way to add to or augment resources to address changing workloads or gain another perspective on a complex planning issue and offers a way to gain access to additional planning skills, expertise and resources without competing for a relatively small pool of skilled professional staff.

The Society issues the professional designation Certified Local Government Manager (CLGM). The Society delivers the annual Municipal Refresher Course. The Faculty of Extension, University of Alberta, SLGM and NACLAA Levels I & II are housed in this unit. The organization is the custodian of public administration continuing education programs.
