The Government of Alberta (GoA) FOIP Training Program
is recognized as an essential resource for the FOIP community, however due to the following reasons the FOIP Training courses have been cancelled for Spring 2019.
- As many of you are aware, the GoA underwent a transformation of service delivery for its internal FOIP Services over the past year, with impact to all areas.
- While operations and the provision of these internal services have continued, there are many changes that are still unfolding, making it a challenging time in general.
- Additionally, the need for a refresh and update of the courses has been raised repeatedly and it is becoming difficult to minimally deliver courses that may only adequately support your public bodies’ needs.
In light of these factors, it is no longer viable to continue down this path and we are pushing pause so we can reset and return with improved training and support for all public bodies in Alberta.
This means the courses, including the General Awareness, Introduction and Privacy, Access to Information, and Managing a FOIP Program, in all capacities, including Instructor-Led or On-site training are being cancelled until further notice.
We are working to determine how to best replace this support for Alberta’s public bodies and want to make sure it will be of true benefit and value to you. We will endeavour to consult through the FOIP Networks/ Communities of Practice meetings which are also in redevelopment and to which you should be members. In the interim, we will endeavour to continue the provision of online telephone support to your public bodies through the provincial FOIP-PIPA Help Desk at 780-427-5848.
